Breast cancer doubles in Mexico

Worldwide, the breast cancer it is one of the main causes of mortality among women. In Mexico during the last 30 years deaths due to this condition have doubled, informed the federal deputy, Silvia Pérez Ceballos .

The PAN legislator recalled that according to the statistics of the Health Secretary (Ssa), from 2005 to date breast cancer has exceeded the number of deaths that those generated by the cervical cancer.

"The figures are alarming, 60 thousand new cases are detected each year. Every nine minutes a woman is diagnosed with this disease . The most serious thing is that 40 percent of the women with the condition are in very advanced stages, "said Pérez Ceballos.

He clarified that most of the mammograms that are taken are diagnostic, that is, when there is already a suspicion of cancer, and not screening, which are those that are made for early detection. For that reason, only five to ten percent of breast cancer cases are detected early.

He highlighted the importance of forums such as "Integral attention to the problem of Breast Cancer ", Where the proposals and opinions of specialists of the Ssa, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE), National Institute of Cancerology and of the National Commission for Social Protection in Health ; as well as institutions like the National Institute of Women and of social organizations related to the subject.
