Pre-eclampsia due to overweight in pregnancy

Preeclampsia , gestational diabetes and a longer labor are some of the consequences that a woman with overweight may suffer during pregnancy . Eating for two at this stage is just a myth. The important thing is to eat better, pointed Angelica Magaña Virgin , holder of Nursing Programs, of the Coordination of Integrated Health Programs (PrevenIMSS )

Virgen Magaña, said that at this stage of life is when you should take a balanced diet and nutritious that includes proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and folic acid, in addition to an increase in calories so that the baby develops in a normal way. He stressed that special care should be taken with what is eaten during pregnancy and not suspend any food, unless the doctor prescribes it, because malnutrition causes serious consequences in the development of the fetus, such as malformations, alterations, prematurity and, in some cases, abortions . Magaña Virgin stressed that during this stage is very important the consumption of folic acid to avoid congenital defects such as spina bifida (the spinal cord and spinal cord do not close completely), anencephaly (insufficient brain development) and encephalocele (when brain tissue leaves the skin through a hole in the skull).

This vitamin is found in green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, watercress, as well as in orange juice and enriched grains, such as rice and wheat, beans and nuts, as well as the supplement (folic acid) provided by health personnel, before pregnancy and during the first three months of it. In the gestational period the woman must raise, in total, between 8 to 12 kilos. In the first trimester they must go up from a kilo to a kilo and a half; from the second quarter, one and a half kilograms per month, and in the last quarter, from one kilo and a half to two kilograms monthly:

"In the IMSS, comprehensive care for women is offered pregnant , where women learn the care they should have during pregnancy, the diet they should follow, the puerperium (post-delivery stage), the benefits of breastfeeding and the techniques for feeding the newborn, "reiterated Virgen Magaña.
