Malaria decreases in Mexico

According to the doctor César Sandoval, director of Surveillance and Epidemiological Intelligence of the Ministry of Health of the capital , the levels of malaria in Mexico they have decreased, because there are around 300 million cases worldwide, of which 90% are concentrated in Africa.

The specialist explained that only two cases of malaria in 2010; whereas so far in 2012, only one person has been served. It is important to highlight that these three patients visited countries where the spread of disease , like Nigeria and Central America.

He explained that in Mexico City until now there is no identification of the mosquito Anopheles, which is in charge of spreading this infectious disease of parasitic type, for which 22 states of the Mexican Republic are free of malaria .

In an interview for GetQoralHealth , César Sandoval explained what is the malaria , its symptoms, as well as the vector that spreads the disease:

The groups at risk for contracting malaria are children, women pregnant and international travelers who come from non-endemic areas.

The malaria it is preventable with the use of mosquito nets impregnated with insecticides and the fumigation of closed spaces, as well as curable with an adequate treatment, which is supervised by the sanitary authorities, to avoid drug resistance.
