Windows in office improve quality of life

If you've always wanted to have windows with spectacular views in your work or office, now you have the perfect time, because according to a study of the Northwestern University In Chicago, having windows in the office allows for a better quality of life and health, due, apparently, to greater exposure to sunlight.

Ivy Cheung, from the university's interdepartmental neuroscience program and principal author of the study , explains that having windows in the office allows workers to be more active, improve the quality of their sleep at night and, in general, a better quality of life, compared to those who do not have these.

As part of the study applied to workers who were in offices with and without windows, those who did have them received 173% more exposure to white light during working hours, and slept an average of 46 minutes more per night than those who did. They were in offices without windows.

In addition, employees in offices with windows also tended to be more physically active, had a higher quality and efficiency sleep, fewer sleep problems, less daytime drowsiness and higher scores on quality of life.

On the results, Cheung explains that "the quality of life and the dream of daytime office employees could be improved through the emphasis on exposure to light and lighting levels in current offices, as well as design in future offices "

After this investigation was presented at the annual meeting of the Association of Professional Sleep Societies (Associated Professional Sleep Societies) , the specialists affirm that although there is an association between the welfare of the employees and the offices with windows, does not establish the causality, for what is necessary to continue studying this type of data for a better quality of life of the workers.
