To reactivate the circulation

People with Cancer They may suffer muscular atrophy due to inactivity, so it is important to maintain their physical mobility to the maximum taking into account their health status. The José Carreras Foundation against Cancer recommends daily a series of exercises with soft intensity.

The physiotherapists of this association recommend a series of exercises for people with Cancer , asoutdoor walks "Even if the person has to rest every little time, it is better to make a small effort, since when walking, the whole body is exercised in general, the circulation improves and the environment changes".

The collaboration of family and friends is fundamental, because it serves as encouragement so that the patient does not leave aside the physical activity , despite the mood lows that usually occur throughout the treatment.

People who are in absolute rest can have circulation problems, ulcers by high pressure, muscle atrophy, tensions and rigidity. Physiotherapists Josep Carreras Foundation recommends:

To reactivate the circulation

1. Raise your arms towards the ceiling with your elbows in extension, open and close your hands. In the same position perform circles in both directions with the arms.
2. With the legs flexed and the heels of the feet resting on the bed do flexo-extension of the feet (move them up and down without lifting the legs). In the same position perform circles with the foot in both directions.

To maintain muscle tone

1. With legs stretched out, place a rolled towel on the mattress below the knee. The knee should put pressure on the towel, keep a few seconds and rest (without lifting the leg), press, hold and rest and then with the other leg.
2. Make movements with one arm and put resistance with the other, for example by flexing the elbow, bringing the arm stretched towards the ear, separating the arm of the body in the plane of the mattress.
3. With one leg flexed, resting the foot on the bed, the other stretched leg draws circles in the air.

Stretching

1. Raise the arms above the head and stretch as much as possible.
2. Lie down, with the bottom of your feet on the bed, keeping your knees bent. Apply gentle pressure so that the lumbar areas are fully supported on the mattress. Push the chin downwards, taking out jowls (this way the cervical area is stretched) and perform a self-stretching of the spine (imagine that a thread pulls from our crown towards the wall behind us, as if we wanted to grow).
3. Stretch the muscles of the arms and legs, each according to their possibilities.

These exercises are ideal for all types of cancer patients, put them into practice and enjoy this moment in the company of your loved one.
