Regular drinkers may suffer from atrial fibrillation

People who regularly take alcohol in large quantities, they are 51% more likely to suffer from atrial fibrillation (a type of cardiac arrhythmia), compared to social drinkers or abstainers, says a study conducted by Tsukuba University in Japan.

Although doctors know that to drink more than 2 drinks a day, can trigger an episode of atrial fibrillation, the results of the study published in the newspaper American College of Cardiology, They suggest that the usual habit of drinking alcohol could be the trigger in this condition.

Atrial fibrillation is the type of cardiac arrhythmia more common and usually does not represent a probability of death, but patients who suffer them have a higher risk of heart attacks. It can generate palpitations, fainting, chest pain or heart failure.

The condition becomes more common with age and additional risk factors that include high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.
