Less smoking according to the V National Survey of Addictions

The consumption of tobacco in Mexico it has decreased by 6% according to the Ministry of Health's portal, from 26.4% to 20.4% in the period between 2002 and 2008, as demonstrated by the fifth National Addiction Survey presented by the Secretary of Health, José Ángel Córdova Villalobos.

However, it was pointed out that there is a slight increase of less than 1% between the same years in the consumption of illegal drugs In our country. The survey was conducted to more than 50 thousand people in different entities of the Republic.

This smoke contains numerous gases and particles that include toxic components capable of causing damage by inflammation and irritation, suffocation, carcinogenesis, among other conditions.

The main drugs of initiation in both sexes in Mexico are tobacco and alcohol. Tobacco in 53.5% of men and 63.2% in women, being the 17 years the year in which the majority of the population begins their tobacco consumption.

The National Health Program 2007-2012 tries to improve the health conditions of the Mexican population and has among its main objectives to reduce the levels of drug use in the population, where adolescents and young people are considered a priority.
