Health alert will be withdrawn for influenza AH1N1 in Mexico

The federal health secretary, José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, said that in the coming weeks the AH1N1 Influenza virus alert could be definitively lifted.

Cordova Villalobos indicated, during a television interview, that the usual surveillance system is maintained in all hospitals in the country.

In this regard, reported that from April 2009 to April this year, there have been 8 thousand 514 cases of people infected, while in the entire Mexican Republic, the figure is 72 thousand 418 infections and 181 deaths.

 

WHO will announce the final date

Córdova Villalobos, said that it will be in May when, in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO), a report on the epidemiological status and announced the date on which the health alert will be suspended.

However, the federal official clarified that even when the alert is at a low level, hygiene and prevention measures must be maintained. He reiterated that surveillance is maintained in hospitals, as well as the notification of cases that occur and vaccination.

 

Prevention must continue

The head of the Ministry of Health of Mexico, said that by the end of 2010, between 20 and 30 million doses will be applied to the population at the highest risk, in a new immunization campaign.

Cordova Villalobos, clarified that it should continue with the monitoring of influenza AH1N1, which will probably remain as a seasonal virus, which allowed strengthening the surveillance system for H5N1, "which is another virus that is still latent in Asia" and has a 60% lethality
