David Bowie loses battle with cancer

After fighting 18 months against cancer, the British musician David Bowie He lost the battle.

Author of classics such as "Starman" and "Space Oddity", he was 69 years old and the news is confirmed on the Facebook page and on the official Twitter account of the singer.

 

"David Bowie died in peace today surrounded by his family at the end of a brave battle of 18 months against cancer," says his son Duncan Jones, in a message he posted on his Twitter account.

 

"I'm very sorry and it saddens me to say that it's true, I'll be out of the network for a while, I love them all," he says.

 

"While many of you will share this loss, we ask you to respect the privacy of the family during the time of grief," he says.

Bowie, one of the most successful artists of the 20th century, released his Black Star album last Friday, coinciding with his 69th birthday. This last work, which contains only seven songs, has been well received by critics in the United Kingdom.

For years there were rumors about the health of the singer, very reserved with his personal life and who made few public appearances. His last live concert was a performance for charity in New York in 2006.

Bowie rose to fame in 1972 with The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and became famous not only for his mysterious and electrifying lyrics, but also for his spectacular and ambiguous image.
