In an interview for GetQoralHealth , the specialist of the Kellogg's Institute of Nutrition and Health (INSK), explains that chronic renal failure is a condition that affects the quality of life of the sufferer and family members, so prevention plays a very important role.

 

5 habits to protect your kidneys!

Within the framework of World Kidney Day , Carmen Haro details that although it can not be avoided, it can delay the appearance, as well as decrease the likelihood that we suffer through the following eating habits and lifestyle.

1. Eat a balanced diet that is, to include foods of all groups, based on the dish of good eating, in the amounts appropriate to our age, gender and physical activity we perform.

2. Maintain good hydration , to protect kidneys and eliminate as soon as possible any residue of food that could affect them. The ideal is to consume two and a half liters a day.

3. Reduce the amount of sodium. This can be done by decreasing the consumption of foods canned; read product labels to choose low sodium; remove the salt shaker from the table and try to cook with spices, so that the palate gets used to the taste without salt, but with flavor.

4. Decrease the consumption of fats in our diet, that is, avoid the consumption of red meats, and if they are swallowed, try to choose lean cuts; remove the chicken skin and reduce the intake of sausages.

5. Limit protein consumption , especially those of animal origin. For example, you can reduce the consumption of meat and replace it with legumes, which are good quality proteins and have no fat.

In addition, the consumption of fiber (fruits, vegetables, whole grain cereals and legumes) to decrease the concentration of calcium in the urine and the chances of stone formation.

Some of the foods that should be moderated to take care of our kidneys They are chocolate, spinach, tea and cola, because their content of phosphates can contribute to the formation of kidney stones, says the nutritionist.

In addition, Carmen Haro recommends making a physical activity , at least three to four times a week for 30 minutes a day, so choose an activity that you like so that it becomes a habit.

"If we have a healthy diet, which includes the greatest variety of foods, in some way we will ensure that we are reducing the consumption of fats, animal protein, which will generate benefits in our quality of life and health to the future ", concludes Carmen Haro.
