What you should know about organ transplants

Who would think that one day it would be possible to save someone's life by replacing some of their organs and that this would work perfectly over the years. Thanks to scientific and medical advances, it is now possible transplant almost all organs.

In an exclusive interview GetQoralHealth, Dr. Luis Navarro, transplant surgeon of Hospital ABC, ensures that any person who has any deficiency in any organ is a candidate to undergo a transplant .

Virtually all organs are donables, among the most common are:

  • Kidney
  • Lung
  • Liver
  • Heart
  • Pancreas
  • Cornea (tissue)

In order to be a donor it is necessary to check the compatibility, by means of a molecular study, in which the genes and blood tests are examined.

It is a relatively new surgery. The first transplant was practiced approximately 50 years ago, said Dr. Navarro

It is important that after being subjected to a transplant , the doctor performs the corresponding analyzes; all people have a parallel risk of rejection of the organ at any time of his life.

It should be noted that in case of any rejection, not necessarily must be removed from the body. There are slight or serious rejections.

The culture of organ donation it is something to which we must give diffusion, it could save many lives.
