Researchers from the European Society of Cardiology advise the prevention and treatment of periodontitis due to its recognized negative impact on health, as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases .

According to specialists, diseases that affect the gums may increase the risk of coronary events, such as those caused by arteriosclerosis , and some that are so serious that they can endanger the survival of the patient, such as myocardial infarction.

Also, experts warn that the low socioeconomic level and the habit of smoke , can also have an important influence in this relationship between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases.

Therefore it is important to take the following measures for the prevention of periodontitis:

1. Visit the dentist at least twice a year (even if you do not feel any discomfort in your teeth or gums). 2. Inform the dentist if you suffer diabetes . 3. Use a toothbrush with soft, rounded bristles. 4. Carry out a brushed conscious and complete. 5. Use Toothpaste with fluoride, as well as mouth rinses . 6. Brush your tongue. 7. Use floss daily (if you do not know how to use it, ask the dentist to teach you how to do it correctly). 8. No smoke.
