Inflammation of lymph nodes, danger of cancer

Instead of living with the fear that you may have a lymphoma, you should know how the usual process develops. You can research online, as well as in the printed books and professional studies that have been conducted on the subject.

To help understand the basic things about this disease, here is an overview of the different steps that a person goes through when suffering from this type of cancer. The first noticeable signs are the enlarged lymph nodes that can be found in the areas of the armpits, neck and groin. In most cases, those with this type of nodes also suffer from fever, loss of appetite and drastic weight loss.

When you go to the doctor, you will be asked to undergo an excisional biopsy, in which you will take a small sample of tissue from the organs or nodes that appear to be affected with the disease. They may also ask you to have cytology done by fine needle aspiration.

In most cases, patients are diagnosed through lymph node biopsy, but when cancer affects other areas, such as the stomach, brain or skin, specific biopsies of these organs should be done.

After diagnosis

Once you have diagnosed this disease, you must know exactly what type of lymphoma you suffer. This can be ruled out after the pathologist has analyzed the cancer cells. The two main types of this disease are Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

After diagnosis, the patient must undergo a series of tests to know to what extent the disease has spread throughout the body and what organs have been infected. To do this, the patient must have a bone marrow test, blood test and if the case is worse, you may need to receive chemotherapy treatment. After all the exams, you can discuss your treatment options with an oncologist.

The best thing you can do to stay healthy all the time is to eat well and lead a healthy life. This may not be so easy, especially if it is the kind of person who likes alcohol and other vices. There are also those who, no matter how healthy their lifestyle, acquire the disease, since there are other factors that affect their general well-being.
