Obesity shortens the lives of children in Mexico

José Ángel Córdova Villalobos, Secretary of Health of Mexico, said that overweight children could suffer a setback of up to 7 years in the Life expectancy .

According to INEGI, the current average life is 73 years for men and 78 years for women. For the National Institute of Public Health, in 7 years, the number of girls and boys from 5 to 11 years with a greater weight the ideal was increased by 77%.

The problems and complications of obesity in children include: - Psychological problems. Lack of self-esteem, depression, negative comments from their schoolmates. - Respiratory insufficiency. Airway obstruction during play or sleep apnea. - Orthopedic diseases: deformities in the spine, ankles, feet and hips due to excess weight. - Metabolic diseases (hyperlipidemia, diabetes, etc ...), hepatic (steatosis, steatohepatitis), cardiovascular (hypertension, atherosclerosis) and malignant (cancer).

The proper selection of foods, as well as the motivation of exercise at an early age, creates good habits and maintains health.
