Mead Johnson inaugurates Institute of Pediatric Nutrition

With the presence of the doctor José Ángel Córdova Villalobos , Secretary of Health of the federal government, Mead Johnson Nutrition carried out the inauguration ceremony that marks the start of activities of the Mead Johnson Institute of Pediatric Nutrition for Latin America, which represents an investment of more than 5.8 million dollars.

"The Institute will be unique in its class in the Latin American region, dedicating itself exclusively to the Child nutrition , with special emphasis on areas such as neuronutrition , the immunonutrition , the healthy growth and the science of Breastfeeding " He said Eduardo Álvarez, Medical Director for Latin America Mead Johnson Nutrition, who added: "our Institute has two fundamental objectives: first, to contribute to the development of new science and second, to give health professionals, consumers and the scientific community in general, greater and better access to information about pediatric nutrition ”.

Today, approximately 38% of children under 2 years of age have anemia (deficiency of red blood cells), mostly due to iron deficiency, while 26% of children between five and eleven years of age are overweight or Obesity, according to the 2006 National Health and Nutrition Survey.

These facilities are the third in the global network of the Institute of Pediatric Nutrition Mead Johnson, the remaining are in China and the United States. The newly opened complex has 1,600 square meters, reinforcing the importance of Mexico and Latin America for the company.
