Fighting obesity costs 5.6% of GDP

In Mexico, almost 6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is allocated to combat the problems linked to the obesity . If this pandemic continues to increase, the Chamber of Deputies estimates that up to 30% of the national GDP could be used in the next few years.

According to the secretary of the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Eladio Berber, the federal government spends 5.6% of GDP on programs to combat the problem of obesity and overweight .  

In this sense, the federal legislator pointed out that if the diseases linked to thekiss such as diabetes, hypertension and tumors, continue to rise, in 20 years the Mexican government could spend up to 30% of GDP.

Berber Vargas, indicated that in Mexico there are five million children with problems of obesity and overweight . Figures from the Ssa indicate that seven out of 10 children spend more than three hours in front of the television or playing with a video game, where physical movement is almost non-existent, a factor that causes more sedentary lifestyle in the population and consequently more obese people.
