Discover if you are addicted to shopping

Do you like to go to stores and buy any item on impulse, even if you do not need it? Be careful! You may be a shopaholic and need professional help to overcome this problem before your life is affected.

According to information published in The Huffington Post , it is expected that one out of every 20 individuals in the United States, that is, 6% of the North American population is addicted to purchases.

Although women are more likely to be shopaholic, the proportion of men addicted to buying is more or less equal to theirs, since they prefer to buy tools, toys or electronic devices online. But, you may ask, how do I identify a shopaholic? You only need to distinguish the following characteristics:

  1. They need to have control over things.
  2. They are genuinely impulsive and compulsive.
  3. They buy items in multiple quantities; for example, the same blouse or shirt in 10 colors.
  4. They store unnecessary things.
  5. They hide what they buy from their family.
  6. They feel guilt or shame after buying attacks, but they keep buying even if they feel guilty.
  7. Acquiring items causes them very intense feelings.
  8. They spend excessively and impulsively.
  9. In stores they know them by name.
  10. They have financial problems, excessive debts and problems in their family relationships.
  11. They separate from friends who buy little.

Added to all these characteristics, the condition of the addict to the purchases is very complicated, because they can have problems at work, family or with the couple.

Some shopaholics seek to distract their emotional feelings and needs with purchases (anxiety , depression , sadness); or accumulate items as trophies, are experts in offers and discounts. Even another shopaholic returns the purchase to the store in a short time.

Avoid being a shopping addict!

If you identify yourself with any of the above characteristics, maybe you should do an analysis of what you buy and the reasons, to start controlling you. In addition, only acquire what is necessary and do not give in to the temptation to buy without control.

Before buying any item, ask yourself if you need it, cancel your magazines that offer merchandise, reduce the credit limit on your cards, carry only the cash you need, make a financial journal to keep your finances in order.
