Are men oriented better than women?

Beyond a work or entertainment question, looking for directions is a frequent action in everyday life, and in the past was a decisive factor for human evolution; However, who is better at this, men or women?

According to an investigation carried out by the University of Ulm , in Germany, by the neurologist Matthias Riepe , men are better at orienting themselves or at least they do it faster.

Through a scan of the brain of a group of 24 people, composed of both genders, while looking for a location in an unfamiliar space, it was observed that men only took around 2 minutes and 22 seconds while at the same time Women took 3 minutes 16 seconds to find the right route.

For the expert, this is because males, when searching for directions, use the area of the brain called the right and left hippocampus, while in women only the right hippocampus was activated.

However, there is another explanation, and this is found in hormones. According to an investigation carried out by the University of Bochum , the differences in spatial perception that are noticed between men and women are mainly due to the greater or lesser flow of sex hormones in the blood.

Women, when they are at their lowest level of female hormones during menstruation, reach the same averages as men.

The article published in the scientific journal Rubin , states that during menstruation the asymmetry between the cerebral lobes is accentuated; situation that makes men better in orientation.

Although at present there are already technological tools such as GPS (Global Positioning System) or Google Map, we still depend on the functions of our brain to search for directions. However, when you want to get to a party and you do not know how, you know who you should give the map to.
