Is the birth of your son and still do not know if it will be Birth natural or Caesarean section ? This is a decision you should make in conjunction with your doctor, since some factors depend on choosing either of the two options.

Many women wonder if they should opt for natural childbirth or Caesarean section . However, in 10 to 15% of deliveries, surgery is necessary, and is performed to ensure the welfare of the baby and the mother. In the rest of the cases, the type of delivery is a decision that the mother must make in an informed way, long before the date of birth of her baby.

With that end in mind, here are the main advantages and disadvantages of a Caesarean section .

Advantage

  1. An epidural injection is applied to the abdominal part. Thanks to this, all sensibility is lost from the waist to the feet. This means that the birth of your baby will be painless.
  2. You can schedule the date of your baby's birth.
  3. The operation lasts three to four hours (including preparation and recovery), compared to natural labor that can last up to 20 hours.

Disadvantages

  1. You have to go through surgery with anesthesia, and any surgery carries risks of infection and damage to other organs.
  2. A cesarean section does not stimulate your baby's senses.
  3. Because oxytocin is not generated, some studies indicate that the initial affective bond between you and your baby may be diminished. However, this can be recovered with time and attachment.
  4. Since you have to be taken to the recovery room after your surgery, your baby usually does not come into immediate contact with you.
  5. Recovery can take four to eight weeks, a longer period than a natural birth.
  6. It will be hard for you to walk the first days.
  7. You can feel nauseous in the first days, due to the effect of anesthesia.
  8. Breastfeeding can be made more difficult by the pain of surgery and by the delay in the release of oxytocin.
  9. On average, a woman's uterus only supports three deliveries by caesarean section. Additionally, pregnancies after a cesarean are more risky. So the cesarean is not recommended for moms who want to have more pregnancies.
  10. Sometimes, the cesarean section is more expensive than the natural delivery.
