4 exercises that damage your health

Beyond being a planned, structured and repetitive physical activity, the effects of exercise are diverse: it improves lung performance, helps maintain weight and reduces depression; however, it can have adverse consequences.

In accordance with Pedro Ángel López, from the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Murcia , there are three exercises that should not be practiced:

1. Cervical flexion. It is defined as the inclination of the head towards the chest, in which the neck is mainly involved. This generates a great compressive force on the different structures of the spine, and also causes a strong impact on the cervical vertebrae.

2. Hyperextension. It occurs when the head is tilted back and the erect position is exceeded. The effects of exercise are the following: it generates stress in the cervical structures and overloads the cervical ligament muscle complex.

3. Hip flexes with extended knees. The elevation of both extended legs produces an overexertion in the lower part of the spine, also favors the wear of the lumbar structures. Resistance exercises are another physical activity that could reduce your health.

4. Long distance bicycle, marathons and triathlons. These can cause cardiovascular damage; example: scarring, enlargement of the heart, blood vessels and irregular heartbeat, as indicated in an article published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

The effects of exercise can be negative or positive. Remember that before practicing a physical activity you should do it under the advice of a specialist.
