According to the Mexican Association of Cystic Fibrosis , in the country only 15% of children born with this disease are diagnosed and it is usually done late, that is, when the child is more than two years old.

For the disease to develop, both parents must have the CF gene. If so, each pregnancy will have a 25% chance of having a child with the condition, 50% of being a carrier of the gene and 25% of being completely healthy.
