Strokes will grow 350% in the next 40 years

It is expected that strokes increase among the Mexican-American population up to 350% in the next 40 years, revealed through a statement, the American Stroke Association , in Los Angeles California. A apoplexy or cerebrovascular accident , is the injury that a part of the brain suffers due to the interruption of its blood flow and causes loss of function in the place where the accident occurred. Of every three people who suffer from it, only one person recovers completely, another suffers permanent disability and another dies.

Using recent census data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States (CDC), researchers from the University of Michigan considered current trends to help calculate the potential burden of strokes for 2050.

They predicted that strokes among Mexican-Americans they will increase from 26,000 in 2010 to more than 120,000 in 2050. Among the non-Hispanic white population, researchers predicted that this condition will rise to more than 500,000 patients in 2050.
