Streptococcal toxic shock syndrome

The toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is caused by a toxin produced by a certain type of staphylococcus bacteria. A similar syndrome, called toxic syndrome similar to shock (TSLS), can be caused by streptococcal bacteria.

Although this syndrome was often associated with women and the inappropriate use of tampons during menstrual periods, today less than half of the current cases are associated with this habit.

To know some other characteristics and main symptoms, in GetQoralHealth We present a video of Dr. Ken Savage, from the University of Kansas City, who explains in this regard:

Treatment

In the case that it is a infection generalized by any foreign material, such as tampons, vaginal sponges or nasal plugs, it will proceed to extract it immediately and drain the infected sites.

The goal of treatment is to maintain important bodily functions and may include: Antibiotics, dialysis (in case of serious kidney problems), intravenous fluids, methods to control the blood pressure , Y gamma globulin intravenous, which can help in severe cases.

The toxic menstrual shock syndrome can be prevented by avoiding the use of highly absorbent tampons. You can decrease the risk by changing the tampons more frequently and use them only occasionally (not regularly) during the menstruation . But it is very important that you always go with a fully certified specialist.
