Headache is treatable by electrodes

At the London Neurology and Neurosurgery Hospital, a very peculiar treatment is carried out against the cluster headache , which has shown a high level of efficacy in the treatment of this condition.

The cluster headache it is an extremely intense headache, which sharpens specifically behind the eyes or in temples ; this accompanied by tearing and, sometimes, nasal congestion .

The procedure consists of inserting, in the hypothalamus , an electrode that is attached with a cable to a pacemaker located under the skin of the chest. When the stimulator is activated, it sends a tenuous electrical signal to the brain; this results in the intensity and the frequency of pain it is diminished considerably, with the consequent improvement in the quality of life of the treaties.

"We are beginning to understand a little more about what is wrong, not just in neurological conditions , but in the neuropsychiatric , and about how surgery can help when medications can not, "says the doctor Ludvic Zrinzo , in charge of these procedures.
