When one more cup is more than a song

In Mexico it is estimated that there are more than 2.8 million people with symptoms of alcohol dependence, of which almost a quarter of a million are women and about 300 thousand are minors.

At year the health authorities spend 12 billion pesos in the care of cases of alcoholism. In addition, 9% of the total illnesses in Mexico are generated by alcohol consumption.

For the Secretary of Health, José Ángel Córdoba Villalobos, the problem is that most of the people who drink alcohol do not do it daily, but on the days that they do it, they consume it in an exaggerated quantity. An alcoholic is not able to control the intake for an appreciable period of time.

Alcoholism is the biggest health problem, both social and economic. It is involved in more than half of traffic accidents and accidental deaths; but not only that, according to Dr. Gerardo Ochoa Vargas, head of the Health Threat Assessment Station in the Eastern Caribbean Region, and member of the Research Unit of the Graduate Studies Division of the School of Medicine of the Caribbean. UNAM: "a high percentage of suicides are committed combining alcohol with other substances, and there are many deaths related to alcoholism due to complications related to the disease."

Deadly combinations in 3 stages

Stage 1

• Drink too much in all meetings
• Increase your tolerance and frequency of ingestion
• Drink quickly

Stage 2

• Suffer loss of control

• Feel persistent remorse after drunkenness

• Suffering prolonged drunkenness
• Loses tolerance to alcohol
