Playing is not just a childhood thing

The game is indispensable for the stage of childhood and the childhood of the human being, thanks to the contribution of imagination, development of roles , conflict resolution, socialization, etc., favors growth and developing of each individual. Many scientists have chosen to study "the game" from an Ethological perspective and its application to human life.

Piaget, famous psychologist characterized by his studies in childhood and development cognitive , classified the games into 4 categories: motor, symbolic, rules and construction. Discarding the "construction games", the other categories correspond, each one, to the structures of each stage of the child's intellectual evolution. So there are certain activities for each stage.

Contrary to Piaget, Vygotsky (a psychologist with outstanding contributions in the theories of development), defined the game as an activity in which social relations between individuals are reconstructed without any purpose or utilitarian purpose.

For this last author, the highlight of the game is not the pure activity. He concentrates more on the role that the minor assumes within the game and the actions necessary to play this role. The best example happens with children from 3 to 6 years old, in which the game involves a social reconstruction, in cooperation with the interactions of adults, as understood by the child.

Therefore, recreational activities become a vital part for specialists and parents, in which problems of development, emotional and psycho-motor aspects can be observed.
