What can you do?

During pregnancy, it is possible for women to experience dental problems due to the increase in calcium that the baby needs and due to hormonal alterations in his body. Because of these changes, your gums are more likely to become inflamed or infected, which can cause them to bleed. This condition is called gingivitis.

Most pregnant women bleed gums, particularly when they brush their teeth or floss because of increased blood flow through the body that can cause swelling, tenderness and discomfort.

What can you do?

1. It is important to keep gums and teeth healthy during pregnancy
2. Go to your dentist for a cleaning and thus avoid a dental problem
3. Brush after each food
4. Flosses daily
5. Use a soft bristle brush
6. If you have a lot of sensitivity, try using special toothpaste for sensitive gums
7. Do not eat too many sweets
8. Eat a diet high in calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin D

During pregnancy it is essential that you go to the dentist because some conditions such as gingivitis can cause more serious gum infections.

Also, remember that dental pains during pregnancy need further evaluation because they are usually caused by infections and if left untreated there are chances of complications in pregnancy.

If you require dental treatment, keep in mind that you must follow the following recommendations:

1. Never receive treatments before 12 weeks of gestation.
2. If you require X-rays, make sure your dentist always covers you with an apron to reduce radiation.
3. If possible, avoid extractions and invasive procedures until after giving birth.
4. Do not use antibiotics based on tetracyclines because they will stain the baby's teeth.

When to go with a professional?

1. The gums bleed a lot.
2. You have bad breath that does not go away.
3. The gums hurt you.
