Heat and mosquitoes synonymous with danger of dengue

High temperatures and humidity are a combination that puts our health at serious risk. Heat and water flooded are the best conditions for the female mosquito transmitting dengue to reproduce and affect thousands of people with its bite.

According to data from the Ssa de México, during 2009 a total of 165 thousand 748 suspected cases of dengue , of which just over 25 thousand were classic dengue and almost 6 thousand hemorrhagic confirmed.

In Guerrero, five people died due to this last complication. In 2008, there were 26 deaths. The states with the highest incidence of reports were Jalisco, Nayarit, Querétaro and Tabasco.

Prevent mosquitoes from proliferating

For its part, the Program of the Epidemiological Surveillance System of Dengue of the IMSS offers some recommendations to prevent the proliferation of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, among them:

1. Eliminate encharcamientos in the houses, patios and surroundings.

2. Periodically wash all water containers, such as water tanks, drums and pools.

3. Remove any object where the water accumulates or pools, such as old tires, lids, vases, jars, pots, cans or bottles of soda.

4. Avoid accumulating water in containers that do not have caps or can not be sealed.

To prevent mosquito bites, it is suggested:

1. Place mosquito nets on doors and windows.

2. Use non-toxic repellents or insecticides, especially at dawn or dusk, which is when the mosquito has greater activity and predisposition to itch and feed on blood.

To mitigate the ailments

It is very important that in the presence of any of the symptoms of dengue (fevers, headaches or muscle and rash, among others), go immediately to the nearest health center to initiate a surveillance protocol and treatment to mitigate the pain.

Since there is no medication, or vaccine to eliminate this disease of viral origin, it is essential not to self-medicate. Not going to the doctor in time, can complicate the condition with bleeding of varying intensity in the nose, gums, digestive system and other organs, which can lead the patient to fall into shock and even cause death.
