Innovate the treatment against schizophrenia

For the first time worldwide, they launch a drug whose purpose is to improve adherence to treatment against this disease that affects, at least, 1 million Mexicans. The schizophrenia it is more frequent in men. For every 3, 1 woman suffers from it and occurs mostly in people from 16 to 30 years of age.

At a press conference, Soledad Rodríguez , specialist in psychiatry , clarifies that the problem is that it is still a stigmatized condition: "Schizophrenia is a psychopathological syndrome that affects the cognitive, emotional and behavioral functions of people".

However, the doctor said that it is a disease that occurs most of the time, due to genetic factors, although also aspects such as stress , feelings of frustration and the anxiety badly channeled

On the other hand, Carlos Castillejos , medical director of Janssen from Mexico , clarified that progress has already been made in the treatment of schizophrenia , because now the medicine is available INVEDA SUSTENNA , which is an injectable drug of monthly application that controls and favors the attachment to the treatment against this disease:

"It is an innovative drug, because for the first time the attachment to a treatment is generated, since one of the factors that causes the most damage is that patients when they begin to feel good, stop taking the product, but through the ingredients and the way of application ensures that 90% of patients continue with the treatment and have a clear improvement in their quality of life ".

According to Rodríguez, schizophrenia it is a disabling disease that, if not treated in time, diminishes not only the quality of the patient, but also their life expectancy; it is reduced in 10 years: "For example, if the life span of Mexicans, on average, is 78 years of age, patients not diagnosed or not treated with schizophrenia , they live on average 68 years ".

This drug, which promises an improvement of 90% of cases, is applied once a month, once the person is already in the "stabilization" stage and must be permanent, to avoid periods of crisis: "The characteristics of schizophrenia is that the person lives isolated, has alucions, delirium, has sudden changes in their behavior and all these effects, are significantly reduced with this monthly injection, "said the doctor Rodriguez.
