What is Ludwig's angina?

The Ludwing's angina is a infection mouth that combines several types of bacteria and it can be fatal if it is not treated at the moment when the microorganisms are concentrated in the mouth, he said. Gabriel Loranca Fragoso, academic of the graduate of the Faculty of Dentistry of the UNAM .

The specialist notes that the main symptoms of the disease is difficulty breathing and swallowing food, high fever, cervical pain, inflammation and redness of the neck.

Also, it generates weakness, fatigue , drooling, earache, mental confusion and unusual speech.

Loranca Fragoso points out that Ludwing's angina originates in the floor of the mouth and spreads through the airway. Teeth are sources of infection , especially if there are cavities. The infection has two serious complications:

  1. When it forms an abscess : it is a high density liquid with pus, which generates compression in the airway and decreases the flow of air. This clinical picture merits a tracheotomy of emergency, surgical intervention to produce an opening that allows air to escape. It expands to the neck, airways and lungs.
  2. Erosion of blood vessels : Generates a hemorrhage or the entry of bacteria to the bloodstream, or even a septicemia , a widespread proliferation of bacteria in the blood rare, but occurs in patients who have other health problems.

To avoid this kind of disease , it is recommended to visit the dentist frequently and have a good hygiene oral.
