Pet feces endanger health

The Secretary of Health of the Federal District, Armando Ahued Ortega, initiated the campaign "Be a responsible owner" , in the esplanade of Parque México, in the Condesa neighborhood, of the Cuauhtémoc delegation.

In Mexico City it is estimated that there are more than 1 million 200 thousand dogs, which produce 500 thousand kilos of excrement per day. In such a way that if the owners are not responsible for collecting the feces of the animals, they dry up, turn dust and pollute the air, causing infections in the respiratory and digestive tracts, in addition to salmonella , typhoid , shigella , amoebiasis and dermatological and ophthalmological problems, said the Secretary of Health.

"It is not a minor problem, it is an important public health problem, hence we call on all those who have pets, first to always bring them on a leash, it is something that is regulated and that is the reason of an administrative sanction and it is necessary to use a leash for the dogs and second that the owner when he takes it out bring a bag. " Armando Ahued emphasized the need for a culture in the care of stool of pets, since they are part of a important pollutant which becomes a public health problem when they stay in the parks and damage the health of children looking for a place to relax.

The program includes the installation of trucks to sterilize cats and dogs.

During the start of the campaign he stressed that since 1995 there is no case of human anger.

Finally, the Secretary of Health of the Federal District made a call to the conscience of the people and to the analysis that this is a public health program that should be addressed.

The administrative sanction for the owner who takes his dog for a walk without a leash and does not raise the feces is determined by the civic court and is between 1 and 10 days of minimum wage, with arrest from 6 to 12 hours.
