Do people make fun of you because you squint or move your eyes too fast? You may be experiencing one of the eye movement disorders, which may be hereditary or develop over time.

According to National Eye Institute in the United States (NEI, for its acronym in English), people use several muscles to move both eyes and focus on some object or individual, however, sometimes not work properly due to a movement disorder.

Most common eye movement disorders

The UC San Diego, Shiley Eye Center , explains that there are many problems of eye movement, some may be hereditary and be present from birth, while others tend to develop over time. The most common are:

1. Squint: The eyes do not line up in the same direction, so it is common for them to squint or cross eyes. About 2% of children are born with this problem.

There are three basic types of strabismus that are esotropia, exotropia and hypertropia, since it depends on the direction in which the eyes are diverted.

To reduce this type of disorder patches, lenses, surgeries or a combination of any of these therapies are used.

2. Nystagmus: It consists of the rapid and uncontrollable movements of the eyes. It is usually done from side to side, but they can also move up and down or in a circular way.

According to American Academy of Ohthalmology , some people with this disorder are not aware of the movements because for them their vision is not unstable. They can even tilt or turn their heads to see more clearly.

The use of glasses, as well as stop taking any medication that causes it or reduce alcohol consumption is part of the treatment to overcome it.

Remember that your visual health is very important so that you enjoy every day of everything beautiful around you. Do not lose this experience and go to your doctor for any symptoms or discomfort you have. And you, did you know the disorders of the movement of the eyes?
