Cleva Villanueva, explained that the ozone It damages the endothelium, which is a type of tissue that internally covers several organs such as heart , so it analyzes the effect of ozone exposure on endothelial function, to determine the extent to which there is an association of this environmental pollutant with the occurrence of the myocardial infarction .

Professor Cleva Villanueva commented that in countries where there are high rates of environmental pollution , there is a greater income of people to the emergency services, not only for respiratory alterations , but by cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction or cerebral ischemia .

In this regard, said: "It is necessary to analyze to what extent in the Federal District, the population could be at risk of suffering from these health problems, before an event of high concentration of pollutants, especially ozone. It is very important to discover the extent to which ozone intervenes in the exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases , since in Mexico such conditions occupy the second place as a cause of mortality, after diabetes ".

He added that his work team performs studies on rats, which have been subjected to varying activity conditions and the presence of ozone, to know the reaction in their organism. "From there, it was known that the ozone alter the endothelial function ”.

As part of the line of research, the polytechnic academic commented, the effect of ozone exposure on exercise people was explored, so that groups of rats were exposed to swimming under the presence of ozone; others swam without ozone; others did not swim but they were under ozone .

The results indicated that animals exposed to ozone They had alterations, but they were still alive after four weeks. In comparison, rats exposed to ozone and swimming could not continue under these conditions beyond four weeks and died during or after the exercise.

The foregoing indicates that it will be necessary to deepen the effect of the oxidative stress , which occurs beneficially after the completion of the exercise , more in the experiment with animals it was detected that the endogenous antioxidant defense could have been exhausted and therefore the rats did not survive.
