Discover if you have bad nutrition

As is known, the life expectancy of Mexicans increased considerably, therefore we must avoid bad nutrition through the intake of healthy foods that allow us to enjoy every stage of life, especially the elderly.

It is important to take into account that over the years our body undergoes changes in its functioning that can trigger a bad nutrition , which can have unfavorable consequences for our health such as:

  1. Decreased taste buds and olfactory capacity
  2. Reduction in the production of saliva, which facilitates caries and difficulties for the swallowing of food.
  3. Slowness in the transit of food through our digestive system.
  4. Alterations in the gastric mucosa and deficiency in the absorption of vitamin B12
  5. Intolerance to lactose

To know if these or other changes have put us at risk of having any nutrient deficiency, answer yes or no in this small test of the Nutritional Screening Initiative Brochure :

  1. Do you suffer from any illness or do you go through any situation that has forced you to modify the amount or type of food you consume?
  2. Do you only eat food once a day?
  3. Do you eat a few fruits and vegetables?
  4. Do you drink almost every day more than three glasses of beer or more than three glasses of wine or some other alcoholic beverage?
  5. Do you have dental problems or any other condition of the mouth that causes you difficulty eating?
  6. Sometimes you do not have enough money to buy the food you need?
  7. Do you almost always eat alone?
  8. Do you take more than two medications a day?
  9. Do you have physical problems that prevent you from buying, preparing or consuming food without help?

If you answered three to five points: the patient requires nutritional advice and review of their diet by the doctor.
If you have six or more points: the patient requires a comprehensive review of their nutritional status

If you or a relative obtained a high score, we recommend you visit a health professional, so that together they can create an action plan that can prevent the consequences of poor nutrition in your health and quality of life.
