Cough-pertussis increases in adolescents and young people

The whooping cough or pertusia It is a disease that has resurfaced and now affects more adolescents and adults, who infect children under one year of age and who are the most susceptible to this disease.

During the Sanofi Summit 2013 , which took place in Cancún, Quintana Roo, the doctor Sarbelio Moreno , Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Children's Hospital of Mexico, said that this condition is manifested by the continuous presence of cough, which can persist up to 60 seconds and could be accompanied by threw up ; In addition to presenting these symptoms, children tend to get purple due to lack of oxygenation.

According to Dr. Moreno, children with whooping cough they have a high level of anguish and the most serious thing is that in adolescents this disease grows and they are a source of infection for the whole family:

"The whooping cough it takes to be removed up to 30 days. The first symptoms are like any common cold that is where the bacteria can be identified. Then comes the paroxysmal phase, which is when the cough begins and the bacterium is no longer excreted "...

"... At this point, the patient has already received an antibiotic, which is an impediment to diagnosis by culture, because the test for whooping cough is effective only if the patient has not received any antibiotic."

Another problem faced by patients with whooping cough is that the diagnosis (via molecular) is only made in Mexico City, so there are many cases that are not treated in time and complications, people can die.

The pediatrician, assigned to the Federico Gómez Children's Hospital , said that those infected adults can be treated by asthma , sinusitis and apparently suffer a very strong flu that takes them to the hospital, but eventually survive.

The pertussis vaccine gives immunity for 7 to 10 years. For Moreno, the ideal is for adults to revaccinate every 10 years to prevent immunity from running out; however, this does not yet exist in our current vaccination system.
