Atopic dermatitis is common in children

During the winter season the demand for consultations for children increases atopic dermatitis , because when the temperature decreases the symptoms of these are accentuated infections of the skin , which are among the top 10 causes of dermatological care, according to Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

The specialists point out that these conditions are very common in children, which are treated with medicines, as well as hygiene measures such as the use of neutral soap and cotton clothes, in order to avoid discomfort in the skin .

Juan Colín Fuentes , Hospital dermatologist of the Deer of the IMSS , explained that 95% of children with dermatitis atopic respond positively to the usual therapies, so these conditions disappear spontaneously in adolescence.

He stressed that in the first year of life, the disease occurs in 60% of children with erythema (rashes) on the face, associated with dermatitis seborrheic on the scalp; then it manifests with welts Y itch behind the knees, on forearms, groin, armpits and between the fingers and toes.

The dermatologist explained that the atopic dermatitis is related to patients who have a history of rhinitis allergic, asthma bronchial, disease of hay fever , or whose parents have a diagnosis of metabolic syndrome, diabetes or problems of hypothyroidism .

Colin Fuentes recommended parents take their children to the doctor if they have dermatitis atopic with scrapes, scab or cracks in the skin , so that they receive adequate attention and take hygienic measures to avoid relapses or infections .

The specialist emphasizes that it is important to lubricate the skin constantly with neutral creams, without perfumes or flavorings, use neutral soaps, use comfortable cotton clothes, and in the case of babies, quickly change the diaper.
