Adulterated alcohol causes deaths in India

According to information published in the Huffington Post, at least 120 people have died and around 300 inhabitants were hospitalized in the last days, urgently, to ingest alcohol adulterated in the state of Sangrampur, India.

After consuming a local brandy, called Cholai, began to manifest various symptoms of strong poisoning, such as acute headache, vomiting and blurred vision. According to data published in the newspaper's portal, alcohol adulterated is responsible for at least two deaths a week in India, because of its effects and because people prefer it because of its low cost, compared to other licensed beverages.

So far, authorities in the Indian state have reported that the liquor was contaminated with methanol, a mixture that causes serious heart and respiratory problems, causing death if not treated promptly.

Beverages contaminated with methanol cause a sensation of being burned alive, especially in the abdomen and thorax. Then it reaches brain producing inflammation in this one. The pupils dilate and the vision is blurred, which can even cause different degrees of blindness . There may also be respiratory disorders and loss of consciousness, which cause seizures and evenheart attack .

We present an RTU news video where the doctor Ángel Alarcón explains in an interview the effects of methanol:

To avoid this serious poisoning and even death, especially in these dates where there is a high consumption of alcohol , we recommend you:

- Do not consume drinks of dubious origin or presentation. The bottles should look clean and free of foreign particles. - Buy any product on reputable and trusted sites. - Check that the seals of the lids and corks have not been violated. - Always check the labels and guarantee stamps issued by the institutions responsible for their production, distribution and regulations.

But the most important thing is that if you exceed the consumption of alcohol and you present some discomfort or symptoms like threw up , abdominal burning, headache and blurred vision, go immediately to a hospital, since you could be intoxicated.
