5 tips to take care of your eyes at work

According to National Eye Institute (NEI, for its acronym in English), the injuries in the workplace are the main cause of vision loss, eye disability or blindness . Therefore, employers and workers must be aware of the risks to take care of their eyes within their work area.

The specialists point out that people who have jobs in construction, manufacturing, mining, carpentry, car repair, electricity, plumbing, welding and maintenance must take care of their eyes with special equipment. To protect your sight, we give you five tips:

1.- Use good lighting when working: The light must come from the opposite side to the one that is written, and above and to the same direction of the head.

2.- In pens choose blue or black inks: The other shades produce ocular fatigue .

3.- Avoid rubbing your eyes: Never rub or brush your eyes with dirty hands. In case of irritation do not wash with home remedies or use eye drops without medical advice.

4.- Do not expose the view to the intense sun: To take care of your eyes outdoors, wear sunglasses with sunscreen.

5.- Watch the time you spend in front of the computer monitor: If you spend a lot of time in front of these devices, try resting your eyes every three or four hours. Do not place the screen near a window, to avoid dry ocular. If necessary, use lenses special for computer, so you'll take care of your eyes.

In addition, NEI experts point out that special equipment should be used (safety glasses, helmets, face shields) to protect the eyes from flying fragments, hot sparks, optical radiation, splashes, flashes or particles.
