5 environmental factors that cause cancer!

According to the World Health Organization ( WHO), pollution causes cancer, due to the exposure of people to carcinogens through the air. Even, three years ago there were more than 220 thousand deaths due to the neoplasm associated with this factor.

The organization details that the environmental pollution of air, water and soil by carcinogenic chemicals generates between 1% and 4% of all cancer cases.

Even, in a recent study of the International Agency for Oncological Research (IARC) ensures that air pollution is a carcinogen, more important than passive smoking.

This type of pollution, generated by transport, power plants, industrial and agricultural emissions, includes a mixture of gases and particles that favor the development of lung cancer and increases the risk of the vesicular.

5 environmental factors that cause cancer!

However, theAmerican Cancer Society notes that  There are other environmental factors that increase the risk of suffering from some type of cancer.

  1. Tobacco smoke. It is the one that comes directly from the source as cigars, pipes or cigars, as well as the one exhaled by the smoker. It contains more than seven thousand chemical compounds, 69 of which cause cancer.
  2. Benzene. It is a colorless and flammable liquid, it evaporates quickly when exposed to air. In addition, it is formed with forest fires and is part of oil, gasoline and cigarette smoke. It increases the risk of suffering from leukemia.
  3. Radon. Although it is found in very low levels in the air and in the water of rivers and lakes, exposure to this long-term gas can cause lung cancer.
  4. Diesel. This fuel used by trucks, trains, buses and agricultural machinery contains carbon dioxide and monoxide, nitric oxide and sulfur, soot. All these substances generate changes in the DNA of the cells, which can favor the development of cancer.
  5. MTBE. It is a colorless and flammable liquid used as a gasoline additive. Exposure to high levels of this pollutant causes tumors in kidneys, liver, testicles and other organs.

However, the risk that a person has to develop any type of cancer depends on genetics, lifestyle, exposure to carcinogenic substances, among other factors. Therefore, it is important that you take care of yourself and have healthy habits. And you, how do you prevent the risk of developing cancer?
