Why cravings make us happy

Trying to convince you to stop getting a boost from food, only leads to a greater problem, such as overeating, explains Michelle May, a physician and author of Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat (Eat what you love, love what you eat).

Sometimes, even if one is not hungry or has eaten enough, we consume certain foods -such as desserts- only because they make us feel better, happier.

According to the author, the above is not necessarily a bad thing as long as we understand that eating for emotional reasons is due to a connection between feeding and feeling loved.

However, in order not to fall into excess, when you eat to feel good you must allow it and then proceed with something else. It is often more counterproductive to tell people just "do not do it".

In that sense, the cravings that we feel we want them because it contains natural chemicals that cause pleasure , to which the body responds with a discharge of endorphins and it originates a kind of euphoria for that food.

A very common example is the chocolate , which gives peopleeuphoria and feeling of pleasure because it contains serotonin and other neurotransmitter that causes happiness: the anandamida.

The danger of consuming said cravings is that most are packaged and contains other substances, such as preservatives, which are not good for the body. Also, replace them with the versions Light usually eliminates the purpose of pleasure and it only causes you to consume a greater amount.

To eat what you want, without falling into excess, you must do a little test: ask yourself if really, really, really and really want something, which will help you focus your attention on it, according to the specialist in the magazine Health

Also allow yourself to enjoy it to the fullest and get away from distractions like TV or computer. Remember that a dessert should only be consumed after a meal, do not eat on an empty stomach and do not feel guilty for satisfying your whim . And you, what do you like to eat when you're sad or happy?
