Traditional alcohol drinks from Mexico

In Mexico we have a diverse representation of alcoholic beverages according to the traditions, uses and customs of each region, so it is important to know that not all traditional beverages in our country are suitable for consumption.

Most of the time these drinks with alcohol have a high content, since several of them are not usually regulated or do not comply with the norms and corresponding regulations of quality and legal health, for the habitual consumption.

For example, the "charanda" is a drink with traditional alcohol from the State of Michoacán, also known as aguardiente, which is obtained from the distillation of the cane game and has been present for more than 150 years.

It is of Purépecha origin in honor of Cerro de la Charanda and it is considered a high-alcohol drink (as legally established to consume alcohol in Mexico), so it can only be considered "charanda" if it is made with spring water local and distilled sugarcane grown specifically in Michoacán.

Another of the most common alcoholic drinks is mezcal, a word that comes from Nahuatl "mexcalli", which was the staple food of pre-Hispanic peoples. The mezcal is made from agave, has a strong and aromatic flavor and is an authentic Mexican distilled drink.

There are approximately 150 species of agave that are distributed throughout our country, depending on the regions and agaves used, the traditional mezcales of Mexico adopt their names, which can be: Bacanora, Sotol, Minero, Arroqueño, Quitupeño, Zihuaquio, Comiteco, Tonaya , Papalote, Tobalá, Raicilla, among many others.

Other beverages with designation of origin, such as mezcal, are Tequila, Bacanora and Sotol; They are mezcal but they use different names for the region where they are produced and the plants they use for their distillates.

Drinks with alcohol must comply with the established in various regulatory areas such as health, economy, tax, intellectual property and consumption.

Therefore, if you plan to consume any type of beverage with traditional alcohol, check the label, you must have a hologram and plastic band; the neck seal of the bottle must be intact; the label and the cap must be in perfect condition, neither badly stuck nor scratched.

All texts must be clearly read and must have the hacienda seal; In addition to the bottle being in good condition, this will confirm that it is a regulated drink suitable for consumption, that its alcohol content and production process is controlled, and that it complies with all quality standards to enjoy it in moderation.
