Suicides are more frequent on Wednesdays

According to a study conducted over four years in 50 states of the American Union and in subjects of legal age, it was determined that there is a greater propensity to take their own lives on Wednesdays, compared with the other days of the week.

The main causes of this phenomenon are attributed to the stress and the depression . Apparently, they choose that day because of the prospect of having too many activities and not being able to finish them before the weekend, according to the research published in the magazine Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology.

Similarly, it was deduced from the study that the winter season is no longer the biggest risk factor because current communications (Internet and cell phones) do not allow the same feeling of winter isolation as intense as ten years ago.

In this sense, it should be remembered that Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression triggered by the seasons of the year and one of the main causes of suicide.

Symptoms usually begin in the late fall or early winter and disappear in the summer. While another type of APR begins in late spring or early summer and disappears in the winter.

This disorder may be related to changes in the amount of sunlight during different times of the year and the symptoms are key to its diagnosis, however not all have the same patterns.

The common symptoms of depression in the winter they are:

1. Weight gain
2. Appetite change: more sweets or starchy foods are consumed
3. A drop in the energy level
4. Fatigue
5. Tendency to fall asleep
6. Difficulty concentrating
7. Irritability and anxiety
8. Increased sensitivity to social rejection
9. Evasion of social situations and loss of interest in the activities he used to enjoy.

While the symptoms in the summer are:

1. Loss of appetite and weight
2. Insomnia
3. Irritability and anxiety
4. Agitation
5. Greater sexual desire

Currently the APR can be effectively treated with light therapy. However, almost half of people do not respond to such therapy alone, so it is combined with medications antidepressants and psychotherapy.

It is important to be aware of people who recognize some of these symptoms, especially if they express feelings of guilt, hopelessness and physical problems such as headaches.
