Obesity in increases!

Obesity is a problem that goes beyond the aesthetic, it is a disease that is increasing in our country (according to the latest report of the United Nations 70% of Mexican adults are overweight), resulting in disability and death.

The accelerated increase in obesity and overweight, especially in the Federal District, is beginning to cause concern. For the head of the Secretariat of Health (SSA), Mercedes Juan López, he indicates that if the increase in this condition continues, his attention will represent 101 billion pesos in the health sector in 2017.

Obesity in increases!

The Government has promoted various measures to prevent obesity from increasing in the country; however, these have been obsolete since this epidemic is growing at an accelerated pace. Although, what are the factors that make us gain weight and can we change to avoid diseases such as hypertension or diabetes?

1. Processed food The report of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO) explains that both food processors and supermarkets are growing rapidly in many developing countries. These modern stores replace traditional media and increase the availability of processed and packaged foods, which can contribute to the problems of obesity and overweight.

2. We do not exercise. The secretary of Health of the Federal District, Armando Ahued, points out that although it has been sought to open spaces for citizens to perform some physical activity, 70% of the population over 27 years does not take a moment to exercise.

3. Without these drinks the food does not taste the same? Juan Rivera, director of the Nutrition and Health Research Center of the National Institute of Health of Mexico, Indicates that the consumption rates of soft drinks and sweetened beverages in Mexico are astonishing. The average Mexican drinks 163 liters of sugary drinks a year, that's almost nine cans of soda a week.

4. Fast food. French fries, pizza or hot dogs are foods that have been replacing traditional foods such as tacos, but their nutritional value is low and caloric is very high.

5. Means of transport. Urbanization is a factor that has influenced large cities to generate the problem of overweight, says Gina Gomez, nutritionist and manager of Food Orientation Center.

We have more means of transport and we walk less. In addition, before the work activities involved physical effort; now they are sedentary, now we remain static in the office, in front of a screen.

The increase in obesity can be controlled if people become aware of changing their life habits. Your quality of life is in your hands, do not forget it!
