Music detonates positive changes in the brain

Experts say that the best age to start in the musical studio is from the five years . A recent study carried out with six-year-old children, who were taught to play an instrument for 15 months in a row, showed that, at the end of the music training, all children experienced changes in their cerebral anatomy .

This is a pioneer research developed by the Technological Institute of Zurich (Switzerland) and whose results were recently published in the journal "Journal of Neuroscience"The study indicates that the areas used to process the music turned out to be larger and more active, and that the affected regions began to change within a few months of starting music training.

Improve intelligence

To verify the benefits that cerebral physiology experiences when learning to play an instrument has been one of the purposes of Lutz Jäncke, professor of the institute. Jäncke proposes music as neuropsychological therapy , to improve the abilities of language, memory, behavior or spatial intelligence (ability to perceive in detail the world and form mental images of objects). This is fundamental for the thoughts of everyday life, from solving complex mathematical problems to wrapping the daily lunch.

The first musical instrument

Children go through a period in which the melody and noise are a simple sound effect. In this learning, any percussion instrument is your favorite, and any element is likely to be a drum. The psychologist Jean Piaget assured that the child has before him an object of curiosity to discover. But there comes a time when the child, if he shows an interest in music, will want to go further.

However, parents are not recommended to impose this learning and it is advised that it is the child who chooses the instrument that wants to learn to play, although the piano and the flute are the two that least demand children of this age. If you decide to hire a teacher, it is essential that you have previous experience with very young children, since learning differs from that of adults. The most appropriate teaching at this age takes advantage of the child's imagination and spontaneity, instead of imposing a closed discipline, with the objective that the classes become a session of games with music and movement, not a mandatory task.
