Congenital malformations in pregnancy

The Congenital malformations they are a very frequent problem in the world population; however, it is preventable with the consumption of folic acid during the gestation .

In Mexico there are five million 700 people with some kind of disability , of which 924 thousand were born in that situation; It is estimated that around half a million children are born with some problem of this type, some die in the first month of life and in others it is not manifest.

Experts say that the intake of folic acid prevents malformations in the newborn; the woman must take it during all her reproductive life , since the neural tube is formed in the first three weeks of gestation .

Other measures to avoid them are the tests of neonatal hearing screen that are carried out on newborns, to diagnose in time a greater number of diseases .
