Antennae Amnesia in the movie 50 first date

The film starred by Drew Barrimore (Lucy) and Adam Sandler (Henry), not only addresses the romantic theme of how to conquer the love of your life, exposes a neuronal suffering that has to do with the antegrade amnesia , loss of memory where new events are not stored in long-term memory.

50 first dates, (Like it was the first time) shows this memory disorder . The film shows the relationship between the patients, their families, the environment and the people who feel responsible for caring for them.

The film tells the story of Henry (Adam Sandler) a veterinarian specializing in marine animals, who one day meets Lucy (Drew Barrymore) an art teacher, who practically falls in love at first sight. Henry does not know that Lucy has a strange way of amnesia in the wake of a car accident. She only remembers the day of the accident, so she stayed on October 13, 2002 and does not have the capacity to store new memories.

Memory disorder

According to the book: The Relationships Between Temporal Lobe and Diencephalic Structures Implicated in Anterograde Amnesia, written by Aggleton, J. P , indicates that people who suffer antegrade amnesia , can remember episodes lived before the onset of the disorder. East neurological damage it is produced by injuries in certain parts of the brain dedicated to memory (such as the hippocampus, located in the medial part of the temporal lobe of the brain).

Thus, 50 first dates, it is interesting that although in the film the protagonist, Lucy (Drew Barrimore), can not reverse her condition, in the end yes strategies are built to move forward despite such a difficult situation, which is a point in favor of the sick, to develop better understanding relationships between them and their families.
