Long working days can cause heart attacks


Do you smoke? Do you have high cholesterol? How old are you? These are common questions for doctors trying to decipher the risk of suffering infarction in their patients, but a new factor could come into play ...How many hours do you work a day ?

 

According to new studies published in the medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine, the people that they work more than 11 hours a day they are much more likely to develop Heart problems in a period of 12 years, compared with those who work from 7 to 8 hours per day.

 

English researchers examined data on more than 7,000 adults between 39 and 62 years of age, including more than 2,000 women. The results indicated that 10% of cases where there was a risk of coronary heart disease they were due to long working days .

 

The follow-up was done for more than 12 years, and it was found that 29 participants died because of some heart disease , and 163 They survived heart attacks.

 

People who reported working 10 or more hours a day presented no greater risk than those who worked less, however, those who indicated work more than 11 hours a day were 66% more likely to suffer a heart attack or to die because of one.

 

The author of the study, Mika Kivimaki, mentioned for the newspaper New York Times , that the chronic stress associated with working for many hours can cause affectations in the metabolic processes , or cause depression and sleep problems.
