3 detonators of eye cancer

I agree with you National Institutes of Health of the United States (NIH, for its acronym in English), there are different types of eye cancer that develop in the external (eyelids) and internal parts of this organ.

Those that develop inside the eyeball (intraocular cancer) are the most common and are known as melanoma and lymphoma, while in children the retinoblastoma But what causes them?

The American Cancer Society reveals that until now the causes of ocular cancer are unknown, however, there are some factors that favor its development:

  1. Eye color. People who have a clear tone are at greater risk of suffering from intraocular melanoma, that is, blue eyes are more likely to develop cancer than brown ones.
  2. Moles. People with abnormal spots on the skin or brown spots on the uvea (middle layer of the eyeball) are at risk of developing melanoma of the eye.
  3. Weak immune system People who usually have low defenses, such as those who live with a deadly disease such as HIV-AIDS or who have been transplanted and must take some drug to avoid organ rejection, can develop primary lymphoma of the eye.

There are different treatments to fight eye cancer, but the choice of one depends on the type of neoplasm and the state in which it is found; however, the most common are surgery, radiotherapy, heat and cold therapy or laser beams.

To prevent the development of cancer in the outer parts of the eye, specialists recommend protecting the eyes with sunglasses, hats and sunscreen around them.

Do not forget to go with your specialist if you notice any abnormality inside or outside of your eyes. Protect your eyes and your health in general!
