Tasks of the health personnel at the time of normal delivery

Before the expectation of birth and during the minutes of the development of the birth, mothers are regularly surrounded by medical and family staff, who among their main tasks include support and help to the mother.

During natural childbirth, the personal sanitary aims at the watch out of the health of the mother and child, with the lowest possible level of intervention in the safest way possible; therefore, in normal delivery there must be a valid reason to interfere with the natural process.

The tasks of the health personnel described in the document "Care in normal delivery: A Practical Guide", Report presented by the WHO Technical Working Group, in 1996, are four:

  1. Encourage the woman, her partner and family during the birth, in the period of delivery and successive.

  2. Observation of the parturient: monitoring of the fetal condition and the child after birth, evaluation of risk factors and early detection of problems.

  3. Carry out minor interventions, if necessary, such as amniotomy and episiotomy; child care after birth.

  4. Transfer of the woman to a higher level of assistance, if risk factors arise or if complications arise that justify said transfer.

In such a way that the staff will always be aware of the situation to intervene if necessary. The health of the mother and the baby will depend on teamwork and the work of the experts.
