How do we drink in Mexico?

Alcohol is an integral part of most Western cultures, and Mexico is no exception, so knowing what our habits are helps to prevent abuse in alcohol consumption.

According to National Survey of Addictions who made the Health Secretary from 1988 to 2008, with people between 12 and 65 years old, the consumption of Mexicans is sporadic and explosive, this pattern of consumption results in four million Mexicans drinking in large quantities; that is, once a week or more frequently, these are called customary.

How do we drink in Mexico?

Data that will help us to know the reality of how Mexicans consume alcohol are:

1. Persons over 15 years of age who have never drank alcohol: 37.5% are men and 64.3% are women; a total of 51% of the surveyed population.

2. The level of abstainers represents 54.9% of men and 82% of women, of 69% of the total of those surveyed; With abstainers we refer to people who have been without alcohol for approximately 12 months.

3. Those who have ever been drunk represent 12.6% in men, and in women 2.9%, of the surveyed population (2003)

4. Alcohol consumption per person per year is 31.62% in men and 13.32% in women. In total, 27.16% of the population (here people were surveyed 15 years and older).

5. People who currently drink: 17.4% are men and 17.7% are women. In total, 17.6% of the Mexican population (WHO 2011 Global status report on alcohol and health ).

For all this, it is very important that we begin to adopt a culture of responsible and moderate consumption in terms of alcoholic beverages, you have to be alert with what you consume, how you consume it and how much you consume.

Choose to drink properly, enjoy your drink and avoid abuse that may affect your health and integrity, do not overdo it.
